AGCVA 2023 Summer Conference

Let's renovate.
A dated building that is maintained but not renovated becomes less inviting, less efficient, and loses value over time.  The same can be said for an unchanging approach to workforce development.  This nearly universal challenge across our industry requires an entirely new approach, experts - both in knowledge and in practice, and collaboration.

We invite you to be part of a revoluntionary and dynamic shift.  Take a seat at the table to glean ideas from others and offer some of your own as we leverage the power of many to create new solutions.  We hope you will join us and that you will encourage those who are passionate, experienced, solution-oriented, and ready to grow the construction workforce to do the same.

The future of the industry is bright, and we hope you will help us build it.

Ready to get started?

New State Run Workforce Agency Coming to Virginia
Secretary of Labor Brian Slater will provide an outlook and overview of the recently passed legislation consolidating and transforming Virginia’s fragmented workforce development system. The legislation combines a dozen workforce development programs and data systems under a single agency, the Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement (DWDA). The new agency will direct all workforce programs across state government to optimize
workforce readiness for Virginia’s current and future jobs.

2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Workforce Workshop: Rethinking Your Approach to Recruitment and Retention

We all know there is a burdening workforce shortage.  The numbers of needed craft professionals state and nation wide are staggering. And while we can all agree that hiring practices need to change, it can be difficult to know where to start. This roundtable workshop will knit together various perspectives and team positions to encourage honest discussion that will help you rethink your recruiting and retaining strategies. Whether you have a recruiter team, a one-man show, or no current strategy, this workshop will give you practical tips that can be taken back and implemented in your company.

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Turning "Mental Health" from a Buzzword to Commitment
Mental health in the workplace continues to be a hot topic, especially as construction remains one of the top industries that experiences worker suicide. But recognizing its importance and creating a culture of care are two different things. This session explores how to dig deeper into assessing the wellness of your team and committing to practices that makes mental health a core priority.
