Phone Down It’s the Law

Did you know that texting or physically manipulating a phone while driving increases your crash risk by 2300%?  It involves all THREE kinds of distraction – manual, visual, and cognitive, making by far the most egregious form of distracted driving.

That is one of the reason why starting January 1st, 2021 it will be illegal to have a phone in hand while operating a motor vehicle. Violating the law is punishable, for a first offense, by a fine of $125 and, for a second or subsequent offense, by a fine of $250. Breaking the law in a highway work zone is punishable by a mandatory $250 fine.

Our friends at Drive Smart Virginia are running a “Phone Down.  It’s the Law.” campaign with information and free resources to help your workforce and those on the roads avoid danger.  We encourage companies to share this information to all employees, and provide the resources they need to drive safe.
