AGCVA 2023 Convention

Built to win, and built to last.

A possible recession. Labor shortages. Inflation. Supply chain issues. These are not small challenges, and we are all experiencing tremendous volatility and uncertainty.

We know that tough times don't last forever, but what is the best way to navigate them? What can you do to protect yourself and your business from the outside forces that threaten your company and your future?

You have a powerful advantage. You are a part of a community of more than 500 of the most well-respected commercial construction companies in Virginia. You are connected to thousands of construction professionals who are facing these same challenges.

Join us January 19-22 at The Greenbrier Resort.  We'll address these problems head-on, bringing some of the top industry thought leaders to you. By attending, you will expand your thinking, learn from experts, lean on the experience of others, and bolster your business.

Rather than fearing the future, we'll help you find the opportunities to innovate, fortify your organization, and take back control. We'll help you design a future where you and your business grow and thrive.

We have weathered many fierce storms, and we will weather many more to come. Our nearly 100 years of history has taught us that when we face both challenge and opportunity together, we can accomplish just about anything.

Your community is beside you, and we are always stronger together. AGCVA members are not only built to win, but we are built to last.

Your safety is our top priority.
The Associated General Contractors of Virginia (AGCVA) values the safety and well-being of its member businesses, their employees, AGCVA’s employees, and anyone attending an AGCVA event. AGCVA will continue to follow all venue, state, and local guidance and directives with respect to COVID-19.  To view our full "Safely Back" Guidelines, please click here.

Control the Controllables
Presented by Jake Thompson
Today’s ultra-competitive, always-changing landscape requires a special mindset and skillset in order to create – and maintain – a leading edge. Fortunately, these are two areas that are not determined at birth, but instead can be effectively built with the right focus and choices.

Discover how embracing a competitive mindset through this new perspective will foster professional and personal development at an unparalleled level, and position you with an advantage in your customers’ eyes. In this powerful program, Jake teaches how to make the winning choices that will create a competitive advantage for your organization in a thriving or uncertain market.

Key Lessons:
  • How we can maintain progress in uncertain times by focusing on what's in our control
  • What can we as leaders do to empower and retain our talent
  • Why our mindset and our culture are the two most important assets during turbulent times

District Officers Council Lunch Meeting
This is one of a few conversations held regularly throughout the year when leaders from each of AGCVA's districts share updates, successes, challenges, and goals.

General Membership Meeting
We hope you'll join us for this session.  This is your opportunity to find out the latest about what AGCVA is doing for you and how to maximize your member benefits.  You'll hear about any new initiatives, progress made, opportunities to get involved, and more.

Fun Session:  Book Club & Coffee
Please purchase and read the book, Mercury Pictures Presents, by Anthony Marra.  At the convention, grab a cup of coffee and join the others for this session, facilitated by Catherine Stelter, Research Librarian.

Fun Session: Craps Gaming Demonstration
Enjoy a gaming demonstration held by the casino staff as they present the basic skills to play the Craps table. Participants have the chance to learn the secrets behind the odds and how the house advantage is set up. Along with the table game, the will also have a better understanding on the mechanics of the slot machine and sports betting.

Sporting Clays Competition

Saturday, January 21

Legislative Update
Come hear from AGCVA about how we are advocating for your business with both legislators and regulators in Richmond as well as in Washington, D.C.  Members of the AGCVA lobbyist team will provide an update on the 2023 General Assembly session.  What legislation is AGCVA supporting and what legislation is AGCVA opposing - and why?  What other legislation is AGCVA watching?  AGCVA is focused on ensuring that commercial contractors have a strong voice in the capitol.  Come to this session to learn about all that we are doing on your behalf.

Analyzing Financial Statements
A company's financial statements tell a story to third party users as well as to the company itself.  Understanding what the users of the financial statements are looking for can be key to the company's growth and stability.  In addition, being able to identify trends in financial data can allow management to make better decisions faster.  We will take you through several examples of how to analyze your financial information and how third parties utilize that analysis.

AGCVA Construction Workforce Summit and Lunch
Back by popular demand, AGCVA's Construction Workforce Summit will assemble workforce organizations from across the commonwealth that can help you find qualified, talented people and keep your company moving forward.  Connect with leaders representing veterans, trained job-seekers, eager recent graduates, and more.  The summit will feature brief, high-level introductions to the representatives of these talent pipelines and showcase how you can take advantage of what they have to offer.  After hearing about these workforce resources that are available to you, take time to walk around to the presenters' booths and learn more details on the next steps in getting involved.  Please note:  A boxed lunch is included with your registration for this session.

Corn Hole Tournament
This will be a single elimination tournament to include up to 32 participants, making up 16 teams. You will register as an individual rather than as a team. We will have a waiting list available in the hospitality suite to account for no-shows. We will wait a few minutes for those registered to arrive and will fill no-show spots from the waiting list. Those on the waiting list need to be present at the start of the tournament in order to be placed in an empty slot. Those on the waiting list will be entered in the tournament if and when spaces become available. Waiting list participants will be assigned based on the order in which they sign up.
